השפה האנגלית היא הנפוצה ביותר בעולם כשפה נלמדת. בישראל אנגלית היא השפה הזרה הראשונה הנלמדת בבתי-הספר ונחשבת כמקצוע לימוד מהחשובים ביותר שכן ציון גבוה במבחן הבגרות באנגלית ברמה גבוהה מהווה אמצעי קבלה לאוניברסיטאות. ללא אנגלית תלמיד אינו יכול להתקדם ללימודים גבוהים במרבית התחומים ובמיוחד לא בתחומי המדע, הטכנולוגיה וההנדסה. אי ידיעת אנגלית ברמה נאותה מנמיכה סיכויים לניעות כלכלית וחברתית.

The English language is the most widely taught foreign language in the world. In Israel, it is taught as the first foreign language of study . English is considered one of the most important subjects in the school curriculum because admission to all university degrees requires a high matriculation grade in Advanced English. Students who fail to study English at higher levels, might lose the opportunity to continue to Higher Education, especially in the fields of Science, Engineering and Technology, and thus hinder their chances for social and economic mobility.
